Also, undertakes strategic planning and provides technical advice and guidance in future business development ensuring financial viability and technical proficiency within a standard operating platform.

In addition to conducting research, actively participate in a number of productive institutional activities and deliver formal lectures to the institution and engage in formal or informal discussions with graduate or postgraduate research students and undertake collaborate research with faculty or staff.

Managing the day-to-day Engineering Department activities of Abu Dhabi International Airport and its multi billions expansion programme; developing the airport-site-wide design manual, managing team of specialists to provide engineering support to existing facilities and contributing to the ongoing development and construction of new facilities including managing the technical review procedure of all projects as well as participating in the planning and design of new terminal and support facilities.

Oversees the discipline design activities within the team and interfaces all relevant project aspects together to ensure implementation into the design process and timely execution as per project schedule . This involves hiring, training, motivating, evaluating and supporting the team of engineers. Liaise with Project Director, other discipline managers and client to provide technical input and ensure implementation of requirements.

Hands-on experience to develop, manage and control complete scope of services as defined in the project contract documents to meet the profit objectives of the project. Establish and maintain effective professional working relationships with owners, architects, engineers, contractors, vendors and Local Authorities. Develop and train assigned personnel. Compile and ensure compliance with project-specific procedures.

Dr Ahmed Jaheen was headhunted to work with his hands-on experience to manage and control the total scope of services as defined in the project contract documents to meet the profit objectives of the project. To undertake the project management tasks required to ensure smooth progress and provide/monitor the necessary technical design input to projects and insure timely executed project activities. Design necessary KPIs to measure project efficiency and ensure implementation of objectives and meeting requirements. Responsible for development of all design deliverables including specifications, data sheets, drawings, reports, etc.

Implementing and designing engineering projects includes working with organizational departments and the engineering manager or director to understand the scope and needs of an engineering project, then developing the project design strategy within financial budget guidelines. This includes determining the amount of engineering staff needed and how many phases will be required to complete the project.

Led the development of innovative finite element techniques to optimise the performance of buildings in extreme conditions. Ahmed emphasised the new philosophy of Structural Fire Engineering in the organisation which was applied to wide variety of projects. His business development included securing the necessary research funds to enhance the methods of designing buildings in extreme conditions. His contribution to projects has been highly regarded by clients as it enhance the building performance.

To investigate and evaluate facts and data in an assigned research project. Develops new/innovative process technology to maintain industry efficiency and provides technical support and technology transfer to the market. Also works with other research teams and industrial bodies to commercialize new scientific approaches and technical tools and to facilitates the development and professional growth of assigned technician(s).

Jointly with University of Manchester, a leading extensive numerical and experimental research project to investigate the behaviour of steel structure in fire.

The challenging role of faculty at a university includes the teaching of students at different levels including postgraduates MSc and PhD, the creation (and transmission) of new knowledge through research and innovation, and the crucial skills for "thinking outside the box" to engage with areas outside one's research discipline and developing of the necessary skills to improve the lateral thinking.

Jointly with Buro Happold, one of the very early case-studies in structural behaviour in fire was studies and published.

The Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (PCHE) is a professional course in the higher education profession such as demonstrating and tutoring. It is run by Learning & Teaching Services (LeTS) and the Department of Educational Studies and takes two years to complete. The PCHE qualification m
