Rom Mendel

As Director of Marketing at Cochlear BAS, I am part of Cochlear BAS’ executive team. My main role is to lead the company’s global marketing activities and manage the company’s marketing department. In this position I am responsible for a marketing team of 18 people including technical and commercial product managers, project leaders, marketing coordinators and communication and media specialists.

As Commercial Manager for Oticon’s Power/FM/Pediatrics Group, I had overall responsibility for driving Oticon’s worldwide growth within the clinical hearing care markets. Together with the group’s two Technical Managers, I co-managed a product development division of approximately 30 people that develops and markets wireless and hearing aid products. My main tasks were to lead the marketing team and guided the group’s commercial tasks incl. definition of future products, brands & developing business plans.

As Director of VPN, I was responsible for managing Eicon’s Secure Internet Product Group and the Safepipe VPN product line with approximately 25 employees. In this role, I was responsible for growing Eicon’s worldwide VPN and firewall business. Responsibilities included product-market strategy definition, product line definition, approval of development plans, approval of business cases, input to revenue forecasts, overall group budget, relationships with vendors and partners, etc.

My responsibilities included sales to system houses in Denmark, development of mutual market activities and sales / business plans.

Responsibilities included technical maintenance, debugging, and active operation of radar-guided missile systems. The last 22 months of my service were spent as a leader and instructor with responsibility for developing course teaching material, structuring courses (10-month courses), technical education with instruction and leadership of new recruits. I completed my term of service as a Sergeant, First Degree.

In 1998 I completed my studies in the International Marketing and Management track (IMM), an M.Sc. program at the Copenhagen Business School (CBS). IMM graduates are trained to fulfil management positions and handle tasks for firms operating in the international arena.
